Why are my recent opponents self destructing??

Hey all! As previously stated, I’m taking a break from rapid to focus on my blitz. After a brief adjustment period of getting re-acquainted with the faster time control, it looks like things are starting to click into place.

But several of my recent opponents have got me confused as to why they simply folded under hardly any pressure? These three games over the last couple of days are good examples.

In game 1, my opponent simply hung a piece for no reason (not under time pressure or anything) and then couldn’t produce any counterplay at all. Sure, my finishing blow with rxc6 is visually nice, but it’s no exactly a tricky concept.

In game 2, my opponent chose an objectively poor gambit - the Elephant - which I’ve never understood at any level of chess beyond like 1000, and then collapsed and resigned when they blundered two pieces for a rook.

In game 3, probably the most egregious of all, my opponent just completely ignored my attack. I wasn’t subtle: I lined up all my material at his king, and he simply didn’t react at all!

My question is this: I don’t think I did anything special in any of these games; is it normal for players at this level to crumble like this, or am I just getting lucky? I’m sure that I’ve faced opponents far better than this at the same level, so I’m confused as to what’s happening of late.

Game 1:

Game 2:

Game 3:

In related news, I’m back over 1800 blitz, gonna keep grinding it out. Target is 2000, we’ll get there I hope!

You might be simply stronger than your opponents in that terms. I know a german streamer who is around 1900 - 2000 in Rapid and experiences blunders by himself and his opponents very often too.

You are just underrated in blitz. It's normal. I also had the same in blitz when I got to 2000+ rapid and played the two simultaneously. Now I’m at 2000 blitz and getting close to 2100 rapid.

Well hopefully that’s the case and my rating will climb quickly, then.
Guess I’ll just enjoy the high accuracy games while they last!!

Blunders occur at every level of chess, this is for sure, but you’d hope that players at this level would at least try to make moves and plans that take into consideration their opponent’s ideas - the third game that simply wasn’t the case!
