why are people so disrespectful on blitz games??

I usually play 15 minute but I find that when I play blitz I find a lot of people send mocking emojis or taunting messages. I really hate this because I’m far more likely to be tilted on blitz. My theory is that when you play longer games you’ll have more respect for the time your opponents given you. Is this anyone else’s experience and could it possibly just be a lower elo player phenomenon.

People playing faster time controls typically don't have as much patience at the lower levels. If they had patience, then they would probably play longer games. It is a combination of this and just people being poor sports. Most on chess.com are good sports, but occasionally everyone will go through patches of a few bad ones back to back.

Just ignore their emojis/chat or disable the chat if they become too bothersome. I'd report anyone taunting or trolling you and just move on.

It is also a petty tactic, you play worse when you are annoyed. Since there is also less time, the more of your time that is wasted not on the game the more likely you are to lose. I usually do the following:

1. Don't respond, if you respond you just waste time and you lose focus.

2. If you are in a worse position try extra hard to find an opening for a comeback or squeeze out a draw (stalemate, forced repetition). Don't resign, in normal games there can be phases were you are winning and losing. This is no different.

3. After the game regardless of the outcome block them. If they use bad language report them, even if you are an adult and not bothered by it there are plenty of kids that also play on this site.
