i agree they are all scared! if you don't play me again, do you really deserve that win? Man up and play me again.

Nothing to do with fear or sportsmanship. If I won first game, not much satisfaction in doing it again. If I lost first game, I’m no glutton for punishment. I think most requests are from players mad at themselves for losing and having trouble accepting it. I never do rematches.

I most decline not because I'm scared but simply committed to myself before the game that "this will be my last game today" lol

i dont understand the people who dont rematch. in my opinion they lack sportsmanship

i hate it when people don't rematch especially when your high rated, the reason people rematch is cause no one is good enough to be in the pool for you to play with all the time. i remember when i was 2500 bullet it was so difficult to even find a pairing and even now last night it takes me over a minute to find a game only for them to abort or not play, its ridiculous. this is not to say anything bad about chess.com but just in general rematches are just a thing to keep playing

I never do rematches. I do poorly on that second game. My rating average is 150 points higher than when I offered rematches after every game. To each his own I guess......

I often find that. They tend to try so hard all of a sudden & it's a pity they didn't try harder first time round. I rematch if I think someone has something to teach me, if I'm not tired, not just played my last game of the session, if I don't want to analyse, if I haven't already found another opponent, if that opponent hasn't annoyed me in any way ..... I won't rematch if they have an obviously bad internet .... etc etc.

We must think differently. If they have bad internet, why not take the free points? Rematch, rematch, rematch 😁

donkey moment

Why does it seem like the past 2 years has been one big donkey moment?

I've had opponents blunder queen right away, do the right thing and resign and than immediately offer rematch. I'll accept that as I think that's fair since they didn't abandon game or throw a fit and offer draw

Sure, that's perfectly legit.

because i give them (the rematches), too. When the opponent loses, he almost always wants a rematch, but when he wins he's not into rematching anymore. He runs scared like a chicken.

Interestingly enough, a few days ago I rematched someone in blitz four times. He won three and lost the fourth. He initiated all previous rematches. After the fourth, I asked for a rematch and he just left. By your logic he must be scared.

Such bravado.

Heh, weird. I don't think I've ever declined a rematch in that situation.

If I win or lose 4 in a row I might decline, because either way it starts to get boring, but 3 to 1 in either direction I'm usually having fun. Maybe they had to go.

Eh... depends on the blunder. If it's an obvious mouse slip, ok, I'll rematch (I'll even accept a draw if they offer).

But if it's just a dumb move then I'm not interested in playing someone who is either that bad, or on that much tilt, etc.

It's my understanding that the incidence of cheating is considerably higher during rematches.

He might beat me... but let's see him beat my engine!

That's mostly in unrated or long games. In rated 3|0 and 1|0 I don't think I've ever had that happen to me.

Please chess.com, please set up a forced rematch setting that um ... sportsmen ... can opt into so we don't need to see this thread every other week.

Although this one has been rather amusing.

not the best idea then no one would be able to play new people or people

It'd be a nice option. You'd seek something like a best of 3 or 5, and be paired with someone else who wanted to do that too.

If they were worried about increasing the wait time, then it could be done as "up to" a best of 5 (for example) so you could be paired with best of 3 or just a single game if Bo5 couldn't be found quickly.

that way is much better and would be good

I almost only ever get asked for a rematch if I lose badly, which suggests to me they're mostly interested in racking up a few easy wins against a weaker player. But when I've played a game poorly, I just want to draw a line under it a move on to my next opponent.
