Why are there not more Indonesian Grandmasters?

just wondering, on this site I probably play more people from Indonesia than anywhere except the US. Given that, I am guessing chess must be at least fairly popular. Is it because of a lack of coaching or something?

It's because chess at high level needs someone to pay for your expenses.

Think that , how many strong tournaments are held in Indonesia?.

An Indonesian player should travel and live in Europe if he wants to improve fast.How many can do that? 

That is a good point. I'm not sure that's all there is to it though. India and China have a lot of GMs even the Philippines has a more than a few titled players.

im from indonesia,and the problem is,too many player have potential in here,yes it is,but we don't have money, without money,then coach,tournaments are held in here not many,we can't do anyhting so we can't to being grandmasters.that's all
