why blocking someone does not prevent auto pairing?

Unfortunately chess.com is very weak in expelling cheaters and I was thinking blocking someone who we suspect is a cheater, prevents us getting match again in live chess. However, it doesn’t work.

I just blocked someone, he offered rematch, I refused, I closed that game and searched for a new game, the same player got matched.

Why you are taking any power from users? You believe you are doing a good job in detecting cheaters, I think you don’t, any side could be right. But at least respect our choices, when I block someone I don’t want to have any interaction with that guy, most importantly I don’t want to play with them.

I remember in another thread one of the admins said the blocking feature prevents pairing in live chess, but I even have a screenshot that it doesn’t.

Maybe it was a bug or something, you should definitely investigate more and if thats the case report the bug. Just because if you suspect someone is a cheater doesnt mean (s)he is but to get matched again against suspicios player is really unfortunate even after you ban him. I mean what are the chances? Report him for cheating in any case and abondon your future games if you feel game wont be played under fair circumstances.

My understanding is that it can take a little time for the block list to update for Live. It may also be that you need to leave live after blocking and get back in, though that part may not be needed.

@Arnaut10, around my rating (2200-2300) there aren’t many players actually, so in a specific time, there is a good chance to match someone twice (happens very often), but I wasn’t expecting to get match with someone that I just blocked. That’s very sad. If wasn’t immediately after that game, I may have forgotten that this was a guy that I just banned. Before this happens, I was suspicious that blocking doesn’t work. But I had no clear clue, now I’m pretty sure that this happens.

@Martin_Stahl, that’s difficult to examine since we don’t memorize who we blocked to prevent possible matches.

@blitz2009, did your mom give you permission to read topics in public forums?

#5 yeah, it makes sense now, I didnt think of that. I will look up what does blocking prevent here but Im sure it works and you shouldnt have been matched up against him it was some kind of error. When I find out, I will give feedback here.

I get auto-paired with players I've blocked from ages ago all the time, at least in unrated games. There's definitely something faulty going on. Have reported it but no progress yet.

I've got paired again with someone that I blocked a long time before. I didn't know that I already blocked it, but right after the game I've decided to block it but noticed that it is already blocked. I even had no idea when I blocked that guy. So blocking does not avoid matchmaking even in the rated games, such a pity.
