why chess is not popular?

Compared to what? Screwing? Have to have some perspective. It's plenty popular.
Exactly. Chess is more popular than many trades/crafts that would generally be considered more practical, such as screwing, hammering, carpentry, auto repair, etc. From that perspective, one could make the argument that chess is too popular.

Because after people encounter the types of losers you meet here, they stay far, far away from any board game. Even Candyland.

Chess is popular. But of course it won't be as popular as super bowl.
They just showed the World Chess Championship on ESPN! It was a long segment too!

Chess is not as popular today as it was years ago before the advent of video games with fast action and instant gratification.... yes more people may play now than years ago but one must remember that mortality rates years ago were much higher. In other countries without access to the internet as available as it is here more people play chess and board games..... Today most of the younger generation would rather paly candy crush for hours than actually have to think.

Many people simply lack the intelligence and or patients required for chess
So... you're saying that to play chess, you either have to be intelligent or be a doctor?
