"you"? as far as i am aware i am not apart of the international olympic committee. I personally dont care what ppl call chess i am going to play it either way. the post was merely to point out the comittee's findings since no one else had so far. Some people may be more interested in their opinion, then some random guy name erik who wants some sort of stupid break.

yes i think it is a mental sport rather than a physical sport but it all depends waht criteria you are comparing it to?

And I pointed out that "they" clearly have some credibility issues.  You can try and rationalize it all you want.  But, ballroom dancing is "recognized" by your all mighty committee.

I think the fact you try putting me down personally shows you have no argument based in reality.

I have no argument? like i said i dont care what people consider chess where in there am i argueing? also like I  said I was merely  informing ppl who were not aware of what the committee had determind cause I am sure some would find it interesting even if they don't agree with them. your post was trying to put down "my opinion" when I never even stated one. Are you really not able to understand that or you just trying to find stuff to argue about?

You forgot the clock factor, most sports have some sort of time schedule to stick to.  I've always thought this was the reason some folk consider Chess a sport.

Personally I don't think it's a sport, just a damn good board game.

Golf, baseball, just naming some without a clock factor.

Thats why its not 1 of the things that makes a sport a sport.

"MOST SPORTS HAVE SOME SORT OF TIME SCHEDULE TO STICK TO."

I didn't say them all.  Even if the time schedule is a case of finishing the game/tournament by a certain time or day, it's still a schedule.

For most sports it's a direct part of the game.  You won't see art or science timed in this way.

This is why I believe Chess is viewed as a sport but like I've already said it's just a good board game.

Plus whenever your looking for Chess you will find it under 'Games'.

Chess is a game, snooker is a game, darts is a game.  Personally I think golf is a gray area although its widely accepted as sport.  What's the real difference between golf and darts?

NO SWEAT, NO SPORT.  Tongue out

Snooker and darts require coordination of hand and eye and cannot be played blindfold nor can the genius of snooker and darts players be reduced to print like that of of chess player. To be a great golf player you need the strength of a blacksmith and the skill of a locksmith.

Outdoors.

In a blizzard.

I had a good draw with a guy working in Antarctica.  I figured he'd be too cold to think.  Didn't work.

Darts can too, but only the full contact variant.
