Competition between individuals allows people to test themselves and better themselves. You learn less from playing a computer because ultimately you'll never be able to calculate in the same way that a computer does. In fact, you can pick up a lot of bad habits playing only against machines.

Here's another one I found:

I love playing my computer chess.
I like that no one's feelings get hurt.
I have been reading about the world champions, their feelings at times when playing people like the late Bobby Fischer. I now believe that chess with a computer is more mentally healthy, will help one to succeed better at life, in the areas of a loving family, (The most important area), and work. I retired at age 45 and now I can play all of the chess that I want. I did not play chess, and many successful people did. Still, after the article that I have just finished reading. I believe that working together with others, is better than competing with them. Just my thoughts, and here is the link to the article: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=why+competition+makes+people+feel+bad&gbv=2&oq=why+competition+makes+people+feel+bad&gs_l=heirloom-hp.3...3685.14294.0.14407.37.16.0.20.5.0.418.2990.10j1j0j1j4.16.0....0...1ac.1.34.heirloom-hp..20.17.1526.Vo4y6cXbjLM
