Why do people abort ???

Just made 3-4 attempts to have a live game. Players were more or less evenly matched, but aborted after a few seconds.  Whether you win or lose is not that important, because you will always gain something from every game. Chess is about fun and the joy and spirit of the game.

I think it's  because they want the white  pieces. If they end up with black, they abort. It happens to me too.

probably because they didn't get the position they desired

As i do not play here online very much i abort on play chess because some times you double clicking on say a game in 3 min an the page autos updates an you find yourself clicking on say game in 30 min an i dot not wish to play this slow time control so i abort. i think this accounts for half the aborts.

Maybe they just don't like you.

I abort if a player takes too long to make their first move or their internet connection shows really high lag.  Of course it's a judgement call and their rating is taken into account.  If someone is significantly lower rated than me and seems to be lagging I almost always abort.
