Why do people call me a coward when I decline a rematch?

Attention seeker.

Note : in case of misunderstanding, what I mean was the person that telling others is coward for decline a rematch, not you.

"Sure, he's beaten me 40 times in a row! But only a yellow-bellied coward would run away instead of giving me a rematch!" Run away, you big chicken"

Envoy_of_Anarchy

They only want to bait you into playing again, just ignore or block them.

I once accidentally hung my queen (it was a misclick) so I resigned then offered a rematch. My opponent accepted, and we began chatting. After that, we became friends.

If he didn’t accept the rematch, I wouldnt’ve done anything and just moved on to my next opponent.

Though, once someone rematched me, I accepted, then another rematch, accepted, then another, DECLINED. I declined because I lost all those rematches so I had a feeling he was using me to grind free elo

It’s a well known observation among critical thinkers that the main reason people decline rematches is fear of losing... especially after sensing the strength of their opponent and knowing a second game might not go in their favor.

It’s also human nature to avoid admitting fear openly, so people come up with other excuses to justify 'consistently' refusing rematches.

So to directly answer your question, the most likely reason is that they sensed the softness in you and are frustrated that players like you are taking the competitiveness and fun out of chess.

I wouldn't say critical thinkers, I would say people who don't want grudges or are afraid of losing because of it, like me sometimes

I wonder if folk carry on like this about rematches on 'Scrabble' or 'Snakes and Ladders' websites? Maybe this started on here after the 'Chess Boxing' craze. Chess players watching Rocky 3, Rocky 4 etc.

blueemu

Back in the 19th Century, they didn't give rematches on pistol duels, I know that.

I just am to lazy to click rematch better just to click the "play" button rematches can be fun but I prefer friends not random opponents hmm if I remember you blocked me cause I disagreed with you and you got mad I wouldn't budge from my point

Pretty cowerdly behavior

1 needs button 2 people to respond while the other only needs 1 your chances are way higher of getting a game

Speaking of challenging id like a challenge (when my data works😏)

Emperor-Bluto

he could also have called you a cowherd, but the funny thing is that you don’t actually suddenly become a herd of cows.

so according to Socrates, his statement has been refuted.

I know it doesn’t mean you have to,
You could want to play someone else or something doesn’t mean you’re a coward.
YamiDiablo

I've learned to not have issues nor care about cowards. Cowards meaning players who decline and play someone else. If someone wants a rematch, I give them one. If someone doesn't want a rematch, let them run.

When someone loses a close or surprising game, their ego can take a hit.
