Why do people play the Scholar's?

Throughout my games between 300 - 500 I've played agains't multiple people using the Scholar's, but why would someone play this mate? It's super easy to counter and you won't improve your chess skills at all. Do people really prioritize their Elo more than their occasional improvement? Specially on lower ratings?

I’ve done the scholar’s on friends of mine when introducing them to chess just to teach them to be careful.

I can relate. It's actually so annoying to the point I premove every part of the scholars mate. It also backfires on them as they blunder the queen, most of the time

They must be so impressed about having learned how to mate an opponent in 4 moves they think it's a trap only they know.

Also they like getting the queen out early.

I agree. I absolutely loathe this scholar's mate.
