Why do we need chess?

Chess is a game moving pieces around. If you get mated, you could do something you regret. What about checkers? What about marbles? What about ACTUAL LIFE?

People in the future could think very different about chess. Maybe just an old board game. Chess develops your brain. But, once again what about checkers? Checkers is basically chess, but the pieces are all pawns. What about marbles? You need to quickly calculate the angle to hit the ball out of the circle. What about life? That develops your brain more than anything. This leads to one question-
