Why Does Chess.com Keep Updating Their Site To Add Extra Unnecessary Steps? (New "Analyze" Toggle)
Exactly! I couldn't have said it better myself. I just hope that they understand how it translates to a more frustrating and degraded experience to the end user before it's too late. I used to pay for a membership for quite a while until I finally got fed up with so many of the spammy and unnecessary steps that they keep adding to features.
As the title states, why does Chess.com keep "updating" their site in a way that keeps providing a more degraded experience to the end user? I've noticed that lately, every time Chess.com "updates" their site, it usually means that they're taking something that used to take 1 or 2 steps to accomplish, to now take 3 to 4 steps to accomplish. With each "upgrade" they always make it so that you now have to take at least one an extra additional step to accomplish the same thing. Why are we making things take longer to accomplish and adding more hassle to the user with more steps? It just makes absolutely no sense.
For example, just a few weeks ago Chess.com updated the in-game block feature on their website. During a game, or right after the game finished, you were able to simply click on your opponent's name, hover over the three-dots drop down, and select "Block". Since the "update", the block ability was removed from the three-dots drop down (which was super convenient to be able to do in-game obviously). You now have to click on your opponent's name, click on their name again on the pop-up menu (which takes you to their profile page), click on "More", and only then can you select the "Block" feature. Really Chess.com???? Why are you adding extra unnecessary steps for things we were able to previously accomplish much more conveniently with less steps??
The latest "upgrade" (more like downgrade), is that you now need to take an additional step to analyze your games. Before, when you had just finished a game, you used to be able to simply select the magnifying glass labeled "Self Analysis". This is all you had to do for it to put you in "Analysis mode" whereby the engine was automatically enabled and the top 3 engine lines were displayed. Take a wild guess what Chess.com did with their latest update now. You got it! They added another unnecessary step to accomplish the same thing we were able to do before with 1 step. So now, after you select the "Self Analysis" magnifying glass and it puts you in "Analysis mode", you now have to toggle on a new "Analysis" button that was recently added. So let's get this straight. You're already selecting the magnifying glass icon labeled "Self Analysis" after a game, and then once it puts you in that mode, you then have to enable ANOTHER button labeled "Analysis" now???????? Chess.com, for the love of god, WE DONT WANT MORE STEPS TO DO THE SAME THINGS WE WERE ABLE TO DO BEFORE WITH LESS STEPS lol. Obviously if I dont want to analyze the game with an engine, I wouldnt click on the "Self Analysis" magnifying icon in the first place. This site just keeps going further and further into the toilet. Instead of making things more convenient, making it less cumbersome with less steps to accomplish things, you keep adding more steps to do the same things we were able to do before with less steps. Please please please work with your design team. They are degrading the user experience with each incremental "upgrade".
