why does no one care about the champions after Kasparov?
Anand doesnt get much respect because he isnt white. This is not to mention his safer style often going for draws also isnt very exciting. Id say in the age of computers the flashy attacking chess of old just isnt as prevelant.
Anand is a great chess player, playing at the very top level for 20+ years. He also seems to be a humble ans genuinely nice person.
However, the fact he does not get quite as much respect as the truly legendary champions is that he had the bad luck to be born between two genius-level players (Kasparov and Carlsen) and played visibly weaker than both of them.
He even looked scared and meek every time he had to play against Kasparov and in his first WC match against Carlsen.
So his skin color really has nothing to do with it.
Karpov was nearly as strong as Kasparov, but Kasparov got a ton more respect due to narrowly beating him. It's all about the chess performance.
Perhaps it's too soon ? Like Doctor Who actors, people's favourite world champ is often the one they grew up with...
