It's very few players that say 'good game' after a game.

I have been saying 'Good Games' after each and every game for a long time. Most of them won't reply back with 'Good Game' to me. But, I still continue saying 'Good Game'. It is a habit for me.

Then, what is the purpose of 'Good Game' option given by chess.com?tongue.png

Online. Hardly anyone seems to say 'good game'. Over the board people generally shake hands (pre Covid!), so why not say 'good game'. I joined this website years ago and then didn't play for years, but I have a feeling that when I first joined that most people said 'gg' after the game and now it seems rare. It's not a big deal, but I think it's a nice custom

its because all the old members, well most said gg but the new members treated it as an online thing so they didnt say and the new members were sort of becoming active faster so yeah and so 1/4 is old 3/4 is new

But if you played someone over the board in person would you also not say 'Good Game' after the match?

Nobody likes losing, but if your opponent beat you fair and square, it's customary in chess etiquette to say something to the effect of 'good game'. (good game is the option given in chess.com)

Have you not noticed that behaviour online differs considerably from behaviour in the real world?

That's the problem in a nutshell, I suppose.

It was a bad habit, better that it stopped. If you lose, of course you didn’t enjoy and you played bad, nothing is good here. If you win, it means your opponent had mistakes and if you say good game, it’s like you are mocking him. If ends in draw, either it was a boring game which of course you cannot call it a good game or it was a game with a lot of up and down, that means it was fist of blunders. Not good for anyone 😀 chess is only good for the winner, that’s all

Thats not true, i could have an incredibly close game and really enjoyed it, and even though i lost, i still was happy. also you are sying that chess is only for the rating, which is stupid. I play chess because it is fun regardelss if i win or lose, so you are sying that chess isnt fun so thats pretty stupid

Hii

Yes! I agree with you fully and completely!

Most of us play chess here just for fun. So, winning or losing doesn't matter at all. So, nothing wrong in saying 'Good Game'. happy.png

I'll admit, I mouse slipped that gg sorry. lol

Flaze07

can someone explain to me why draw is often called boring? I feel like draw is amazing ( draw not because of a lot of ups and downs, but because of good defense / good attack ). It means both players played damn well
