Just speaking for myself, I only play slowly and more thoughtfully if the game motivates me to do so. A lot of games simply aren't interesting enough. Something about it has to catch my eye, has to be artful. But chess is enjoyable either way. One can train themselves to see beauty in the imperfections.
Why does people play fast?

Oh. And what is your rating I am curious?
Simple, there is nothing at stake. If there was a $4000 dollars prize money, I would take my internet chess much more seriously.
And here's another answer: Boredom
Sure most people would see quantity versus quality, but some games get so deep in thought that mental fatigue could kick in...Me, I'm a paramedic - If you know a paramedic, you know they needed to have a particular thought a minute ago..let alone planning something out. It's all in the personality.
I like being rushed, and in situations such as triage (not mass casualty literally, just the thought of coordination of resourses) . . . hurry hurry hurry up!

I play 60 min games on Internet with players between 1700-2200 fide. Around 40% of players don't use more than one minute on each move unless they are losing. Also in real tournaments with time control 90 min per game, around 40% of players I met use very few time on each move, maybe 2 minutes max. All this results in bad observation and therefor bad moves and spoiling of good positions.(and perhaps confusing effect on some opponents)
I was wondering what is the reason people play fast, maybe you are such a player your self and would like to explain?
I would't "complain" if they played fast and good(in that case they are well routinzed) but they are not playing so well at certain moves!
