Zombies are actually rumored to be quite accomplished end game players. The have lousy memories though, so they suck at the opening. You can find many of them hanging out in live chess.

Chess was originally "invented" in india to distract men from actual warfare. Also, in the medivel times, pages played chess and other strategy games to sharpen there battle and thinking skills.
Chess is a highly tactical game, which i think makes the game interesting. Once you start playing chess, it's hard to stop.
