Thanks. That is obvious to me now. I asked that question too fast. I have never tracked forums before joining chess.com, but I'm learning the ropes. Actually, I am still fumbling my way around this site.
Why I'm Done With Chess
At this point, the thread topic has evovled to "Why someone would be done with chess." The OP is not the focus anymore.

"Although being well educated is generally associated with a lower risk of developing Alzheimer's, new research suggests that it is also linked with a faster decline if the disease takes hold.
New research published in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry suggests that Alzheimer’s disease might progress more rapidly in highly educated people.
While most studies have found that education is associated a reduced risk of developing Alzheimer's in the first place, this new research by New York’s Columbia University, looked at the rate of progression in people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and compared it with levels of education.
Based on a sample of 312 Alzheimer's patients, its findings suggest that once the accumulation of damage reaches a critical level, decline is relatively swift. ... further evidence is needed before we can make any conclusions.
A key question remains whether these effects are truly due to years of schooling or due to other factors related to education, such as wealth, occupation or lifestyle.''
I hope these guys/gals have some young apprentices working on this with them, otherwise they may well be candidates for the disease and forget what they started out to do!
"OK, based on our sample of three hundred...or no wait, two hundred and..."
LIL I mean LOWL, that is LO? I think oh yea now I remember LPL darn it,!!
Oh look, a computer.. Hey who wrote that?...
Look at all the fun this idiot set in motion for us by having a tantruma and fleeing!
Do you think he will ever forgive us and come back?
I sure hope not!

I guess you could assume an FM or above to be highly educated in chess, so if they get it, it will progress faster.

He may come back a cbanged man. Sometimes when somethhing is missing from your lfe you wish you still had it. I don't hope he won't come. I just hope he comes back a changed man.
Wharever happens, we have had fun with this thread.
I can relate to this sentiment, at some point in my chess life. But later on I realized that chess is more than just the game. Beyond the game, are your friends that play this game. And when you shall soon meet again, a game of chess is the only measure how far have you been in your chess. So then, chess is a measure or a ruler wither we have grown old or suffered from dimentia. In fact, chess is the only constant upon which we can measure ourselves in time. It is through this line of reasonings and purposes why I am going back to chess, from time to time.
However, I have to point out some other observations. Chess does indicate only a certain aspect of intelligence. We all know there are many dimensions of intelligence. But take note, and this is VERY, VERY important: at the deepest heart of chess is a non-human kind of logic. This has been the observation of Kasparov or Kramnik that during their deepest analysis of a chess position, the optimal move is against all human logic and the best move is beyond human comprehension. Take for example a 'mate-in-10' puzzle with only very few pieces on the board and the right move is a sequence of moves wherein you have to move away your pieces from the enemy king wherein human logic would otherwise tell you to advance your pieces towards the enemy king.
So I say, that chess moves at a grandmaster level is a gamble or some sort of statistics against the character of the person their playing. Just like poker. And very, very deep chess moves no longer relate to the ordinary logic of life. That is why, now I am devoting some time studying another game which has application to real life such as stock market or management or business. I bought a Sony PSP, and learning this turns-based strategy game 'Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together'. The strategies has more practical value to actual life.
On point #2, did you know these people before they started playing chess? how do you know they werent arrogant jerks to begin with? to say chess made them that way is a gross misstatement. I've known chessplayers who were callous and unfreindly but most chessplayers i have known have been decent individuals.
