as per me

chess is a sport

is because it has enough or more than enough things to be considered as a sport

like preparation, diet, money, etc

and about the "It does not require physical exertion"

think twice about it tbh because it tougher than it (playing 6hr nonstop chess is tough)

and about other sports

it requires both physical and mental power

it is true that other sport is more physical than mental but it requires both

but people see it as pure physical power  which as per me is completely wrong

to sum up

for eg purpose

chess = 70% mental power & 30% physical power

other sport =70% physical power & 30% mental power

nope. if chess is a sport so is doing a crossword puzzle.

Do you need to stay physically fit to do crossword puzzles? Do you burn thousands of calories at a tournament?

If you’re burning hella calories then it would not be strange to call a game a sport.

then sex is also a sport?

you need to stay as physically fit for crossword puzzles as you do for chess. you burn as many calories too.

Are there tournaments for that? Trophies? Anyways that’s not an appropriate topic for a public forum.

It's not a game and there are no official rules. Then it's not a sport.

Chess is indeed a Sport and it's also indeed just a board game simultaneously, I'd like for everyone to recap all the other sports such as Boxing, Golfing, swimming, Soccer, etc and what do they all have in common? They are all competitive, they all require actual skills and not just "luck", they all involve physical movement and they all require mental skills and they are all intense. Now compare it to a Video Game, Yes call of duty competitions involve mental skills and involves physical movement however the reason why it's not a sport is because for one it relies on the specs of each devices e.g. bad device may have loser and good device may have winner and because it also relies on assigned variables that never actually determines who's truly good such as the health bar, a good player may lose to a bad player simply because they just had only half of the health bar filled up they may also lose simply because their device is trash and mostly because it's on digital platforms, name 1 sport that originally started out entirely digital(if you can name 1 then that would conclude that a digital sport can exist) Now Chess on the other hand, it involves mental skill, it involves physical movement and it's intense, it doesn't rely on "luck" it doesn't have one sided moments because someone is blind or because someone is deaf, it doesn't have one sided moments because someone doesn't have arms, it doesn't rely on a digital platform just like many other sports and therefore cheating would be easier to catch. However this just only means that it's not as risky as most other sports, but it is far more similar compared to many other activities that aren't sports.

how about bingo? is that a sport?

Guys I love chess and everything but why is it considered a sport. It does not require physical exertion and that is the main definition of a sport. It is a fun competition but I do not think that the Olympics can just name any thing a sport, like skateboarding is a "sport" now and if anything skateboarding is more of a sport than chess. I love chess, I am not hating, i just done understand why?

It isn't a sport. I love the game but let us stop pretending it something that it isn't. If chess, is defined as a sport what about Warhammer 40k? It can make an equal claim. It has tournaments, strategy etc.

By definition chess and warhammer are sports. Goodbye.

yes, you, can call chess a sport but that does not make it one. People invest time in video games, and puzzles, i do believe it is a taxing game and competition but just because you want it does not make it a sport. ya feel?

Dude i meant when invest enough time you understand the Beauty of this sport
