Why do we get obsessed by chess? I don't really understand Why it is an obsessive game.

I don't know where you read that chess is an "obsessive" game, but I don't think people are obsessed with chess. I just believe that people like playing chess?

Even as you get better through the years, the difficulty remains high, without ever being overwhelming.

In other words it's challenging, and at the same time offers accessible rewards. Even lost games can carry a sense of accomplishment for seeing or executing ideas you wouldn't have seen in the past.

Because we all want to be good at it, and losing sucks so bad. And the only way to do anything in life at a very high level is to be obsessive about it. Both the positive reinforcement from winning and the negative reinforcement from losing are very strong motivation factors that drive people.

Luckily none of us realize just how bad we are, otherwise we would have quit not so long after we began, and every day since then lol :)

Also luckily, as much difficulty as we have, our opponents are faced with the same task!
