Better in what way?

Draughts and noughts and crosses are just not as interesting!

If you ask in a chess site which is better what do expect you’ll get as an answer.  If you ask in a checker site which is better you may get a different answer however I’ve found most proficient checker players can also play chess.  It isn’t usually the case the other way around.   Chess players seem to assume if they are good at chess it morphs into good checker playing and it isn’t the case.  It’s a different game entirely.

In checkers if your opponent gives you something to take, then (unfortunately) you have to take it. In chess you don’t have to take everything your opponent gives you.

Checkers is just more simplistic, and ergo less interesting...not really much else to say about it.

Analysis?

Who cares... Checkers is for dumdum who cannot play Chess.

Check the pieces... Look the same... move the same, flat, boring.

Give me russian roulette instead.

I agree.  When chess players give such opinions on checkers it shows their ignorance of the game.

It is a different game and deserves respect and I’ve never understood why chess players need to make themselves feel superior by denigrating it.   Shows they really don’t understand it.

So game is done by move 2... but losing player can move and delay... for hours?!

More difficult than Chess... muhaha.

I play both checkers and chess and members of our club mostly play both and I don’t think you understand.  It is difficult to compare the games.  They are DIFFERENT games.  Personally I play all my checker games together and all my chess games together as a group.  Requires different thinking I have found.  Chess players don’t have problems with other games like GO which is also highly skilled but seem to enjoy being awful to checker players.

The only thing I can assume it is because some checker variants use the same board.   Some don’t.

Dont mock what you don’t understand and respect and tolerance is required and discrimination is never a good thing.

Chess isn’t WAY better than checkers.  Sounds like you just prefer it.  (Assuming you’ve actually tried to play checkers).  That’s all.  Totally 2 unique games.

I think checkers has been solved already, sadly.

And why is Go way better than Chess? I think that people assuming that chess is better never really  work on Checkers or International Draughts, these are wonderful games which can occupy a whole life if you want to master them...(a little)

It is called Gamism and some people perpetually like to feel superior and is a form of discrimination.  Respect and realise different people like different games and if you want an unbiased opinion ask someone who plays both chess and checkers at a reasonable level and there is a whole club full of us at this site.

And I have to say I have been involved with many clubs at this site but only the checker club gets this sort of treatment by chess players.  Not all chess players are such but a proportion are ignorant enough to treat another game with such disrespect when they know little about it.

You’ve probably never been discriminated against.  Then maybe you’d understand. I never used to believe this attitude that some chess players have towards checker players.  I thought it was exaggerated.  I believe it now.

And just put it down to lack of understanding and ignorance.

Nope, just 8x8 checkers, not the international version (which uses 10x10 board).
