Yeah, the whole "maybe you should stick to checkers" thing gets annoying.Ā
I think people actually might have very superficial reasons for playing chess though.Ā
Chess is, incorrectly in my opinion, associated directly with intelligence in America at least. From all the studies I've seen, being good at chess usually means that you're just good at chess. I haven't seen any proof at all that there is any direct correlation.Ā
So you get all these people who are playing chess as some kind of attempt to boost their ego.
Maybe I didnāt explain it well. Ā But I do get rather tired of trying to defend checkers when it gets attacked by people who donāt play it and appear to know very little about it. Ā And I donāt understand the need of some chess players to do that. Ā Only some thankfully.
And I always put it down to the fact they have ignorance of the game and I usually give up. Ā As some people like to feel superior as it makes them feel good. Ā
Discrimination in any form is never good. Ā
