Why is Chess way better than checkers?

Maybe I didn’t explain it well.  But I do get rather tired of trying to defend checkers when it gets attacked by people who don’t play it and appear to know very little about it.  And I don’t understand the need of some chess players to do that.   Only some thankfully.

And I always put it down to the fact they have ignorance of the game and I usually give up.  As some people like to feel superior as it makes them feel good.  

Discrimination in any form is never good.  

Yeah, the whole "maybe you should stick to checkers" thing gets annoying. 

I think people actually might have very superficial reasons for playing chess though. 

Chess is, incorrectly in my opinion, associated directly with intelligence in America at least. From all the studies I've seen, being good at chess usually means that you're just good at chess. I haven't seen any proof at all that there is any direct correlation. 

So you get all these people who are playing chess as some kind of attempt to boost their ego.

I agree.  

There are more people who play chess and there is more $$$$ in it.  It is big business.  And there are many more mediocre and poor players at chess.  Because there are more players of it.  That’s what I’ve found.  

And that’s fine chess is a game (not a symbol of superiority or intelligence) and people play it for all sorts of reasons including having fun and fun is important.

Enjoy chess and/or enjoy checkers and/or GO or whatever you play.   

No... discrimination can be fun.

We get bullied by Jocks... from athletic muscle discipline... so bullying Checker player is justified.

Bullying is never good.  And why perpetrate what you don’t like being done to you.

Ummm, there's no big money in Chess...only a tiny smattering of GMs can even support themselves on tournament winnings.  Arguing that Chess is big money is like a Jai Alai league saying that a Lacrosse league is big money, while a single soccer player makes more than than both their whole leagues combined...

This is a really good point.

If you think that people who play checkers are "discriminated against", look at how people who play poker are viewed.

Poker is just as strategically difficult as chess, but top poker players earn more than 10x what chess grandmasters earn. And yet despite how well they perform and how financially successful many of them are, there's such a huge stigma against poker that many poker pros feel the urge to hide what they do for a living.

I've never met a chess or checkers player that was too ashamed to admit what game they played.

There are 400 different possible positions after one move each. There are 72,084 different possible positions after two moves each. There are over 9 million different possible positions after three moves each. There are over 318 billion different possible positions after four moves each. The number of distinct 40-move games in chess is far greater than the number of electrons in the observable universe. The number of electrons is approximately 10^79 , while the number of unique chess games is 10^120 . chess is more complex then checkers. 

The possible positions in checkers is still way too much for any human so your numbers argument is lame 🙄

Checkers has been solved by a computer, meaning that a perfect game can exist which forces one player to win.

Wrong. Perfect game is a draw. You don't know what you're talking about 🙄

my main point is that there's no such thing as a perfect chess game and far more possible combinations and positions which to me personally makes chess a harder game generally and frankly a better one.

i found two different sources one claims a perfect game is a win and one is a draw after further research yes i believe its a draw.
