why is so bad to smoke for a chess player?

The word "Punchline" is used here as a figure of speech... a metaphor not meant to be literal.

It is intended to impart to the reader that they are about to read THE POINT OF THE STORY... You see... Oh never mind... You're from Texas right?

I understand you guys voted for change... HERE'S THE PUNCHLINE:   BOY, ARE YOU GOING TO GET IT.

P.S. Maybe next time just address my screen name or reference the post number (#) rather than take up half a page to post an eight word message.

The last 8 years was about change, get it right.

You can say "here's the KICKER"; that's a good one.

Actually, nicotine sharpens the intellect. On a very short-term basis, though. I guess it's not worth it in the long run.

Yeah, nicotine is the only drug known to have both depressant and stimulant effects simultaneously!... It can be used to calm yourself down in times of stress or wake yourself up in times of fatigue.

BUT HERE'S THE THING! You don't have to smoke to use nicotine. In fact nicotine is the ONE component of tobacco proven NOT to cause cancer!  Nicotine is available in lozenge or gum form.

I am NOT recommending nicotine. While it is not a carcinogen, it does have negative health effects, specifically, it is a vasoconstrictor, causing the  arteries to tighten, constricting blood flow. However, if you are a nicotine addict STOP SMOKING IMMEDIATELY AND LEARN TO USE GUM OR LOZENGES (use of a patch is for people who wish or need to quit nicotine altogether permanently.

Coffee relaxes you while stimulating.

President Obama's platform was "Change". He has been in office for 8 years. Thanks for playing.

No it doesn't. You may personally find the ritual of preparing and drinking coffee in a social setting or alone calming but it has only stimulant effects on the CNS - that's what book-larnin' geeks call the Central Nervous System.

Google it man. I did not make it up.

cnj513 is a troll.

Like that?

Ok  I googled it.

Here's the deal (did I mention I studied biochemical engineering?) - Caffeine binds to adenosine neuroreceptors. This will do two things. Your brain will be less sleepy (stimulated) and adenosine will probably build up (I'm assuming) in the intraneural space between the axons and dendrites.

When you STOP drinking coffee and the caffeine dissipates (unbinds from the adenosine receptors) all that free adenosine jumps on those receptors like sailors on fleet-week hookers.

So I see what you're saying. It's not that coffee relaxes you, it doesn't. But when you STOP drinking coffee you become extra sleepy, MORE sleepy than if you hadn't had any coffee.

I resent that. I may be a lot of things, but Troll isn't one of them.

I wonder if Einstein, without smoking, would have thought about his Relativity Theory in the same way as he did. Nicotine is a CNS drug, modifies brain physiology, so I am not saying [Watch your language - Mod.].

Or the way around: It is not necessarily bad to smoke for chess performance. To ensure what is said in the thread is plain popular [Watch your language - Mod.]. Those that say that have no idea of what factors affect, for good or for bad, neuronal and brain activity.

Coffee balances your blood sugar which helps blood pressure and that relaxes you, physically.

No it  doesn't.

According to The Mayo Clinic, a highly reputable source, coffee typically has NO affect on blood sugar. And in diabetics, the effect is unpredictable, raising or lowering blood glucose levels depending on the individual.

Who tells you this stuff?  The same guy that has you convinced that global warming is a hoax, President Obama is a Kenyan Muslim, and smoking is good for you?

Dude, you need to stop watching Fox News. Two different studies have shown that accurate knowledge of current events is inversely proportional to the amount of Fox News watched.

Put simply, watching Fox News actually makes you stupider!

P.S.  Relaxation lowers blood pressure, NOT the other way around. Virtually no-one can even sense their blood pressure much less be affected by it psychologically.

I wonder different things.

I wonder if Albert Einstein HADN'T SMOKED, might he have enjoyed the longevity and clarity of thought to have achieved his goal of a Unified Field Theory rather than to have failed at his life's dream.
