Why is there mens and womens chess leagues?

Why is there a men's and women's chess league? While I see how it may have been important decades ago, when sexism was a bigger problem and women may have been ridiculed or even not allowed to play, nowadays, especially with the internet, there is no experience barrier or social barrier. Now, I do see some of the reasons, including that, due to the fact that there are more men who play professional chess than women, a man will statistically win more, however, this shouldn't be a huge concern as long as the best players are the ones winning, regardless of their gender. That being said, I can see the frustration you may experience being a women in professional chess. My hope is that sometime in the next decade, there won't be men's or women's chess. Just chess. What do you guys think?

I think, that a large source of many of the Western World’s problems (the least of all being men/women chess leagues) stem from the breakdown of formerly-understood, necessary boundaries. See ‘Chesterton’s Fence’…

Why do you do that? Name calling.

Why do you assume that a separate league for women = sexism?

I am certain that a women's league is there to promote women into chess.

How does the Magic Internet remove any barriers?

women . . . not allowed to play,

Where? When? Who?

Where are women not allowed to play chess?

In a chess club belonged to, there were 1 woman, 49 guys. Anybody is "allowed" to be a member of the club. Women don't want to play chess.

There is no such thing as a men's chess league. Women can play in any event. It's men who are barred from female events.

[NVM this post is wrong I did more research]

it is just a biological thing that men are a bit more strategic than women... , which of course obviously doesn't mean they don't have the opportunity to be great players

This is one of those troll questions along with "Is chess racist because white moves first?" Yawn. Go virtue signal somewhere else.

@bobby_max - I see how it may come off that way, I probably should do more research instead of ask random people online. I am going into this with the intent of learning more about it.

@llama_l - I didn't actually know that, I was under the impression that neither could play in tournaments with the other. I hope this isn't taken the wrong way, and I'll be sure to go and research it on my own as well, but why would there be separate tournaments for women only? I believe that men and women are at even odds as far as talent goes. While it is true that men's and women's brains do operate differently to an extent, chess is something that lots of women like and are good at and I don't think it would really make a difference assuming the same time and effort is put in?

Again, I'll have to learn more about the subject, hope whoever is reading this has an excellent rest of their day!

@JamesClrrke - That makes sense, I know that in the past and even today, lots of men will be disrespectful to women in the chess scene or other, simply because they were born female, and I am disheartened to know how childish people can be. Also fair point with Chesterson's fence

I don't see any downsides of having different tournaments for men and women so why worry about it?

Daydreams6632

@BraggadociousUser - I disagree, I think that segregation in and of itself is a downside. I would be interested in hearing more about why you think that segregation is chill though.

the only downside i could see of it is that less players would mean less competitive but even then the number of male players vastly outweighs the number of woman

i think it's similar to having separate tournaments for sub 1000s or only engines or smth

The amount of incels here is... unsurprising.
