Why people wait for their time to run out in a lost position

So (in rapid) idk if anyone has this problem but there are people that (when they blunder a rook or something) simply wait for their time to run out in hopes that i will get bored and close the computer so that they win the game. I think its very annoying, and I would like to hear what you guys think about it

I report them after the game if I can. Don't know if it really does any good though.

NixrayIT

I would like to know why too.

I have had this twice... only been here since April.... I reported them  after just sitting there salivating on the win..... but no respect...

Yup, I have also met several people like that. Just report that for stalling.

Report them & block them.

It does work. I've had a response to one of my reports saying action was taken - no idea what action or who, but apparently staff are paying attention. Looking back through old games I can see some opponents have had their accounts closed for fair play. Not sure if that was due to my reports or other factors, but chess.com do seem to be on the ball with this.

That's their right and it is normal.

One trick to watch out for is the player who lets their clock run down for almost all the remaining time and then makes a move when you think they've abandoned. Had that happen once and after more than 10 minutes of watching the clock tick down thinking the game was over my opponent finally made a move.

I've had that kind of situation myself, my only advice to you is DO NOT PREMOVE. Unless you're sure that your move won't blunder you anything.
