Why play 1-day-a-move chess if you move immediately?

I don't get it. I've just started playing 1 day a move, and many of my oppenents move instantly. Not instantly like they've written out a line, instantly like after 30 secs. Do they just stalk this site? It's not just in the opening either. I've seen people describing them as puzzles, or saying they look at each one for 30 secs, but if you do... why not play live chess? What's the appeal to turn-based games if you play so quickly? A 15 minute a side game with increments would give them enough time if they play at that speed, they'd be no risk of forgetting their plans, and oppenents who used more time wouldn't have an advantage? So... why? Undecided

I've played 1-day-a-move rather than live because:

- I may be interrupted and have the option leaving the game for a while

- I may want to check a database for openings (which is illegal in live)

- I like the option of being able to calculate for longer even if I don't always use that option

- tougher opponents are more available for turn-based games (in my experience)

I have around 250 games and my average time is 14min :)

I have the website open all day long and when someone makes a move I go and make my move.
In the opening that usually takes a few seconds but mid to end game that can take a few minutes or longer.

I like the turn based system because I am not committed. I can take a break or when I work I can just leave it and make my moves later.

I also played the 15min games on live but notice that I easily run out of time so even if I play fast on turn based, it's slower than the 15min games in live. In the 15min games I still make a lot of mistakes because I have the feeling I have to rush.

BOOM!!! I completely agree.

Why would you bother to complain about this anyway? Maybe they dont want to play live chess. Maybe they only have a few minutes and want to make the most of it. Personally I find it much better when an opponent plays quickely as I play fast myself. And sometimes I watch chess and have a few online games open so that I can calculate things in my own games while watching other games being played. If someone makes a move while I am doing this I useually move within a minute. Its not like moving this fast is wrong, different people play at different paces. There is no point complaining about that.

BTW I'm not complaining.. I'm just curious. It seems to give an advantage to slower players, but they can't run out of time like in live chess. So you just enjoy the less intense version of chess?

Passer082: HOW? 250 games?! OK, I kind of envy the "I have the website open all day long and when someone makes a move I go and make my move." I want that lifestyle, or I'd say you had no life. Obviously untrue, chess makes a better life than all else, but still?

Oh, sorry. YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS AND I AM RIGHT. I AM A GENIUS, NEVER IGNORANT, UNDERSTANDING ALL IN HUMAN NATURE.

That fit in better?
