I resign games that I make stupid mistakes in that I cannot salvage. I don't think I learn much from trying to play out a hopeless position that I know where it went wrong in the first place.

You see what i mean?

Better than resigning wait for the opponent to blunder, isn't it?

glamdring27

No

sree64

Why? You have a chance to win, right?

glamdring27

I'm not playing for the World Championship.  Unless it is a team game winning really isn't that important to me if I've played badly enough to be in a resignable position

It’s funny I never expect my opponents to resign. I’m always trying to figure out how to win the game no matter how far ahead I am. I am usually genuinely surprised when they resign.

The only time I resign is if I desperately, absolutely, positively have to go. (Not counting correspondence.)

LouStule
True. I’m in the middle of a corespondents game right now that was started in 1864.

Me too.

If u resign the opponent would get more confident next time playing with you. So play till the end, right?

lightfood2k6

I've never resigned

glamdring27

Yeah cos an opponent who has to beat you on the board with 2 Bishops and a Rook up will be quaking in their boots next time they face you because you didn't resign...such a show of strength would probably make them resign 1st move against you next time.

TRASHPLAYER87

always resign even if the game is winnable

you dont want to make your opponent feel bad by beating them

Why do you want to feel bad about him? Because u would feel bad if u lose.

I have to wait 5 mins between games because I keep aborting games. Also I resign because I know I can't win.

sree64

What If you win, huh?

sree64

You have a chance.

Well it's their fault for not converting! I was once down a Queen for a Knight, (With a Rook for each side) and my opponent had # in 1. I won that game (not on time either!)
