Chess is a game in which players normally will not chat in OTB. In serious games, tournament games, etc., you could even be warned if you insist on making conversation with whoever you are playing with or players next to you playing their own games, should they be bothered enough to call the arbiter and complain about you.
So it's not surprising people will not chat online either.

Most of the people that do chat me are trolls that want to rub in a victory.
Cos we're all miserable buffoons that shy away from any social interaction, ever.🙄
I don't chat with people in games for two main reasons;
- I'm engrossed and thinking about the game we're currently playing.
- I simply miss the "Someone has asked to chat with you" message. (I do think it could be a little more obvious cos it blends too well).
I do enjoy a bit of chat when it happens, but I don't come to this site for it. If I really wanna say something to a player and we haven't spoken, I'll message them privately after.
