Why this game is hard ...

King-pawns endings are some of the trickiest for the low ranked 1350 players like me. Thankfully, this is a game I won, but my opponent lost a hard fought battle after over 60 moves because of one huge blunder.

Clearly there are a whole lot of obvious but important principles to remember and that's what the game hard!

I was playing black. Rest see annotations.

8.Kf2 was a sad move for your opponent.....if they just go Kd2 and grab the opposition, I think it's a draw....I mean, you just go by the stalker principle of drawn endgames and follow your opponent's king around until you repeat or agree to a draw. Am I missing something?

Even if I'm not, there's no shame in grabbing victory from the jaws of the drawfish - nice win.

king and pawn endings are actually really fun to study.......I feel like they're one of the best ways to score wins for the below 1600 set. A lot of players can inflate their ratings based on strong tactical middlegames but cannot win an endgame unless there are enough pieces on the board to create middlegame-like tactical combinations (as opposed to K&P specific combinations - which are unique to certain endgames)

Absolutely!

It's more difficult winning with a cleaner board, unless of course you have a clear advantage, which I certainly didn't in this case.

See the thing is, it's almost like he didn't see the draw here. He was just not working with that mindset - or that set of typical end game tactics.

7. Kc4 might have been better.

Right! It would have turned the game around.

Probably gone something like this then?

That's why endgame is a continuing pursuit even at master level. Fighting so hard only to fall in the end because of lack of endgame knowledge.
