I guess you mean scholar's mate. I don't think it's possible to "go for" the fool's mate.

As for the scholar's mate, it doesn't give white a terrible position. It's playable (but stupid to immediately give black a small edge out of the opening).

In all the years and hundreds of games I have played, I have never had an opportunity to use the Fool's Mate. Scholar's Mate many times, but never the Fool's Mate.
