Will Carlsen Not Play?

Carlsen said that he would not play the next WC unless Firouzja was the Challenger. Nepomniatchi is the Challenger. Put your thoughts here as to whether or not you think Carlsen will play.

And correct any spelling errors.

I don’t know why but I feel like Magnus just said that to kind of get attention and just for a media hype up. I think in the end he will decide to play.

I don't think magnus will play. I don't think he was bluffing when he said he will not play

If Carlsen does not play then there is a match Nepo - Ding.

He could be great, but he chooses to be a diva instead. Guess the fame got to him.

It appears that Carlsen has learned something from Fischer. However, I really don't care whether Carlsen plays or not.

P.S. - I sher hope I dint make any speling errers...

I would bet money that Magnus will play. He won't give up the paycheck that comes with a World Chess Championship.

What I don't understand is, if Carlsen doesn't play (which I don't believe), shouldn't Nepo win the title by default? How is this any different than Fischer - Karpov in 1975?

Nepo has proven to be the best possible challenger.

or maybe he didnt want to spend a quarter of his life preparing just to squash another person worse then him, or lose if he didn't prep and be remembered as not the best?

The difference is that then 1st and 2nd had already played a match, but still I think Nepo winning the title by default would be more logical, since it's all between him and the champion now.

Of course, I think I already know the answer to my previous question. The quaint 1970s no longer will do, because FIDE can't give up the income that comes with a WC match. Therefore, a WC match must happen, regardless of the circumstances.

Different times.

The regulations have changed.
