I agree.
Will technology ruin the game of chess?

When computers reach the point where no human on Earth can beat them, the game of chess will have been "solved" for all practical purposes. At that point, it will become as relevent as Tic Tac Toe. I don't think we are too far off from this today. The only way to delay this inevitable future, for a little while anyway, is to change the game so that humans are again competitive against computers.
We're probably there already. I doubt anyone could beat Houdini 3 pro running on 8+ cores at classical time controls using a full endings tablebase today.
But so what? The joys of chess are to improve ones understanding of its mysteries, defeat human opponents, and to create art in the process.
None of these is removed by the fact that engines running at full whack are impossible for humans to beat.
I notice how far technology has come, will it soon become impossible to catch cheaters because of new technology, hence, making the game not worth playing?
Cheaters have monsterous egos they trip up and make mistakes and get caught by people who are smater than them in the end just like dopers in professional sports.

Computers have ruined the soul of chess.

Exactly. If anything, it is definitely not the same as playing against another human being, but to put the blame on computers is ridiculous and asinine. The blame should be put on the people who invented the software for computer chess games if blame is going to be placed. Thats like how anybody who attends AA meetings who use the excuse that the reason they beat their spouse is because of their so called drinking problem instead of on the fact that they do not know how to control their anger when they have been drinking and being accountable for their actions.

The motorboat completely ruined the joy of swimming for me.
Totally unrelated, but damned funny though. Hahahahaha.

I believe cheaters (especially from a few of the games I have played against other players on this site) have figured out a way to cheat the time controls, because those few games i have played, I was in a position to checkmate my opponent and its like they saw it and then waited for their time to run down to around 2-3 seconds or so and then all of a sudden it showed the game was over and they won on time when it was their move to make and i would be waiting for them to make it. The position would still be the same on the screen, but when I would look it up in the game archive, it would show that the position was different as though it was my move to make and that my clock time ran out. It has not been that way for quite a while though and I am glad that it seems that those players have either been caught or have not been playing for a while or whatever the case may be, but there will be those who cheat and they need to be found and once they are, they should be banned permamnetly from this site.

never...some players would never cheat...someone will invent an app that prevents using technology to cheat in a game of chess!

your not alone

I think technology has helped the game if anything. Before computers, if you wanted to play chess, you had to find a physical opponent by some means. Now with computers, an opponent is only a few clicks away, making training a whole lot easier.
If everyone is getting better because of computers, how does that make people's ratings higher?
Also, I have something else to say. Computers are just machines. They don't have real brains, and can't explain why the moves they find are the best in the position. You can't effectively learn chess just because you have a computer.

about this forum, chess.com is part of tech chess. If you say what I am quoting and if tech was not here, we would not even be talking about this topic! So I would say tech is OK.

who thinks I have a point?
why did no one answer to me?
Around 60% of this site are total rubbish at chess. They tinker around with databases or engines and kid on like they are good.
True av. rating without these factors probably around 1100.
