just wondering how the rating system work.

im playing blitz and 10 min games at the moment..

do i get the win even if i am loosing considerably but my opponent runs out of time.?

is the win loss soley based on checkmate and time.. or if i am thrashing my opponent but i run out of time and he has 20 seconds left.. does my opponent get the win..

Yes, you win through checkmate, time, or resignation. But to win on time you have to have enough material to checkmate your opponent when his/her time runs out, otherwise it will be a draw:)

Um, while that is technically correct, it is also factually correct, and indeed the accurate final answer. Nothing can be added to that answer. It stands alone, correct and indelible.

Note that "enough material to checkmate" includes helpmates, so as long as some foreseeable continuation results in checkmate, you win.

I would just like to add that the previous answer, as well as the comment on it, hits the nail on the head or is, as it were, directly on point, and completely correct.

Not on this site, which follows USCF rules which basically means a checkmate must be forcible.

Your statement is correct according to FIDE rules.
