For example friend friend you walked pass playing chess, he asked you wana play for $, would you chicken out or be like how much? Straight to business

Or any other scenario , you don't know someone and their level how much would you play for and just one game or..?

Only a dumb idiot would agree to play chess for money with a stranger. Actually playing chess for money even with someone whose strength you know is stupid. Games played for money are better when chance is involved because in games of random chance there is less blame on opponent when you can attribute a win or a loss to randomness.

Playing chess for money also puts chess into category of gambling. Society wouldn't view chess as an educational game and instead will view it as gambling. Parents will discourage their kids from playing. In history chess for money also made some governments ban chess in their countries or create laws limiting it. When Russia had casinos before 1917 they had chess rooms inside the casino. Botvinnik was introduced to chess by sneaking into a casino as a little kid and he got into trouble with his parents.

In some Muslim countries like Iran chess is criticized by clerics and imams. They even try to get government to ban chess not just because some people gamble, but also because they believe it makes Muslims angry and too adversarial toward each other.

Anyway. It's a bad idea to play chess for money. Especially with a stranger. It's not even because he can win your money but also because he can be a street thug or criminal who will take your money by force whether you lose or win.

I'd ask how much. If it's not a large amount, sure, why not.

If someone is asking strangers to play with them for money, then I'd expect them to be better than me though.

Drawgood I strongly disagree with you.

People loosing money in Casino everyday, playing non sense cards game such as poker etc which all is not conciderate as a sport but just a gambling game.

CHess is a sport and just like you said it's not a chance game so you can't gamble on it , you either win or loose you grow in skills. You loose so what ? You becoming stronger you learn something , you paid for a lesson given to you it's not like casino.

If more people would play chess for money then it would be a better society, less crime, less people drinking, less casinos , yes maybe few conflicts here and then but compare to all the crime going on on people would simply sit and play

I would play someone for money if, in the same circumstances, I could be persuaded to simply give him some money.

Eg: If some guy sitting in the park wanted to play me for $2, I would agree... since some guy sitting in the park could probably have talked me into donating $2 anyway.

Yes I would play chess :) if I may be white of course ^-^

No. What you write is nonsense. First you suggest I advocate casinos. I don't think people should gamble whether in casinos or outside casinos. I gave example of poker as a game that is built and based on concept of money at its basis. While I do not advocate people gamble, I want to emphasize that poker is not a nonsense game. It has deep strategy and tactics in it which is why people who have good skill in poker win consistently.

I am not sure why you claim that because chess is a sport it is better suited for gambling. It is precisely because something is a sport and doesn't involve chance that it is not good for gambling. You can simply know the skill of any opponent and you know with certainty that they will win all the time or most of the time. This can apply not just to chess but to all sports. Why not bet money on triathlon? Soccer? Sledding? Etc. It is also because the likelihood of winning or losing for any skilled athlete or a chess player is much more predictable. You know exactly what's the percentage and likelyhood of winning is if there are statistics about the athlete or player.

What is slightly different is what's called Fantasy sports. You can read online how it works. There are team sports teams and players like in basketball or football. Each player has associated statistics with their skill. People who gamble pick players from different teams and take their statistics and combine it into their fictional team. Then as sports season progresses they look at how well or poorly each player plays. It affects their total win rate of their fantasy team because each players stats can changed slightly. In private people actually gamble with these sports teams by facing their made up teams versus each other and seeing numerical results. But it is still gambling.

In poker and other games that have significant chance involved, less skilled players have greater chance to wi against very experience player even if the better player still wins more on average. The skill of poker players is represented as a curve instead of linear predictable statistic for non chance sports.

Chess has no built in chance present. There is only external chance that only slightly affects likelyhood of winning or losing. For example if one of the two players may be out of mental shape that day, or maybe a player makes a blunder. Their skill is still very predictable and linear. Only way gambling in chess could make sense is if both players are rated exactly the same.

What really makes no sense is you claiming that chess gambling would cause "better society", "less drinking", "less crime", "less casinos". Literally none of those make sense. Gambling with chess would actually make those things more common and prevalent.

Drawgood you are delusional, you contradict youself.

Seach the word gambling, what is it? You answered your own question , you can't gamble in chess as there is no chance.

Seach what gamble is! Gamble is when there is a chance involves

Playing chess for money would make our society better as I said before less crime, drinking etc

Look at NY park where people playing chesd for $$, do you see much crime there, violence, drinking, drugs? Probably not, sure they might be some arguments here and then but they are doing there thing and not going around the streets creating robberies and violance
