I have gone from 1910 to 1950 purely by playing Crazyhouse

I never played this.

Congratulations. So Sleep depravation  is the real secret to improving your game... Hmmm....

Today I could feel the lack of sleep and drop a lot of points in TT... It seems it works only in the first time.

That's really not a good way to improve your tactics rating lol

No, its not. Train regularly and with good quality, that is the key.

and by whole line i mean checking every variation if jt busts the tactic or saves my opponent and means its the wrong move. So calculatinf every variation. It is time consuming but pays off and is rewarding when it plays out in the board how u saw in your head after this effort

It is what we have to do OTB, for sure. How many times I lost against beginners because I didn't calculate anything. I am trying to change this.

True i just solved 3 2000+ tactics in a row. You can see in my stats.. but for 2 of them i took almost 20 minutes each! it is time consuming but worth it. Just remember: There is a forced line in the puzzle so check the absolutle forcing or only moves. Checks and sacrifice. Many times there is more then one way to chec k the king then you have to calculate every variation to see which is best. But forcing moves first even if it looks like you just sacrificed your queen for nothing

Yes, the forcing lines first, and check the stupid-looking candidates (they can be the right continuation). I will give a go with tactics or today or tomorrow and I will try to give my comments to the exercises here, just for fun.

I LOST almost 100 points in two days, so I will go back to the article and read it CAREFULLY! And congratulation for the amazing jump!

Thank you. Just take your time.. dont focus on rating. make sure you understand completely the puzzle. if your not sure do not try and make a move yet!! some puzzle took me almost 30 minutes calculating wrong moves then i see the best move.. like why u didnt see it at first? But its practice

I took a booklet and wrote: "I will use this booklet to track my exercises on tactics. I wan to get more efficient in my training. Only trying to guess or spend a lot of time missing the most obvious moves - this is not helping me at all."

"I will write down the number of the exercise (in TT) and the main idea (or ideas) in my attempts to solve the problem. If I miss the right continuation, I will study the exercise carefully and write down some "guidelines" to help me for the next exercise."

A new era is beginning! Let's start to study like a rational human being!

It works! I did twice, and both were correct, although I got only 1 point for the solution. The position 174967 was obvious (double attack on a piece, winning the piece), but I calculated the zwischenzug with the knight and found the right continuation.

Only two exercises, but the thing is promising!

You are right. The points are only helping me to see if I am doing well, but I prefer to take a single point in 50 exercises where I spent a of time thinking then to win 50 points more or less guessing the moves but then losing everything again in few exercises.

2307, my current rating. I'm milking every last drop of my 1 week free membershup lol.

Free membership? How this?

Avatar of torrubirubi

And how did you go from 900 to 2307? Hours and hours solving TT?

Free trial membership. and yes. I hadn't tried TT for almost 2 years, that's why i went to 2306 (actually).

I can only dram from such rating. Well, at the moment I am working point for point, trying to calculate until the end. My problem is that I see a key move, often the right one, see a possible continuation ("he has more material, so I go for a perpetual, that's easy") and see that instead of draw I could have the queen.  Or: I will queen and he cannot prevent this: great! But I make a queen (giving my opponent the initiative and probably allowing to checkmate me) instead of giving checkmate! Boy, this hurts! But I am writing everything down, a kind of list of the most stupid things you can do in TT, and hope to get used to finishing my calculations and not getting focus on the first idea I see.
