You aren't a real chessplayer unless....

.... you have a real, solid wooden set upon which you play over great old pre-1920 classic games while smoking a cigar.
Diakonia

While i can admire, and appreciate the beauty, and craftmanship of wooden sets.  I cant justify spending what they want for a really nice set.  I do have a folding wooden set.  But besides all that, i dont do chess books.  Im a lazy studier...I study online.

toiyabe

I'd rather smoke a joint than a cigar.

MartyMcfly85

Does it have to be tobacco in the cigar? Lol

TalSpin

I have an ivory set my pop brought back from Vietnam

BronsteinPawn

Cigar? Classics from 1920?
Before Lasker everyone was a freaking patzer, they are not worth it.

80sThrasher

I've work to do. Anything hand rolled is a cigar, yes?

BP, you're forgetting the fact that Paul Morphy would beat everyone until Alekhine without even trying hard.

With Alekhine he would have to angry.
BronsteinPawn

I have seen Morphy games first handed and he was the biggest patzer I have seen in my life. Everyone could combine as well as Morphy, it was just that he developed his pieces and so he got to combine more often.

But his positional chess, mine is bad, his is a BLOODY joke!

bongloads are far superior

Dodger111

You got a quadruple lead weighted Indian Boxwood and Ebony set of pieces and board made by Jaques of France.

Sounds good Dodger, sounds real good. Oh yeah.
Shipping cost?

Paraphrasing BP, "everyone could combine as well as Morphy," (except somehow they didn't actually and allowed Morphy to have his way with their kings.)

Meanwhile, Morphy's king was always perfectly safe and laughing in the background.

while drinking a decent single malt. ( oh pre-1930 to include the Cuban, Capablanca ).

BronsteinPawn

Morphy, a true patzer since he was 12.

Perhaps a full cognac snifter while luxuriating in your rich leather and brass chair...,but there were no iPhones available then.
Where was I?
Lasker 1894?
