We all spend 4 hours a day watching GothamChess or Hikaru
If I collect all their videos I watched over the last 20+ years while I have been playing chess then I think the total time is less than 30 minutes

Similar to @MrChatty I don’t really watch chess streams much. I’ve seen a few YouTube videos from @GothamChess and @Hikaru but I prefer to work on my own chess through playing and analyzing than watching long chess streams. I view them as mostly entertainment with some educational nuggets of wisdom.
I’m in support of YouTube and the chess community online (I even started my own YouTube chess channel a few years ago!), but I’ve always been a strong believer of playing a lot and analyzing your own games. Watching videos like this can still be very helpful, but only if you are already at the level of follow how quickly those players analyze. For most beginners and intermediate level players, I’d recommend avoiding long chess videos and chess books, but if you want chess knowledge, then books can be especially helpful. Same with reading chess articles/blogs online if you don’t want to spend as long reading an entire chess book.
We all spend 4 hours a day watching GothamChess or Hikaru, but we won't spend 4 seconds checking if our Queen is hanging before we move. Stop looking for 'secrets' and just sit on your hands for a second. Who else is guilty of this?
