Wow. I have seldom seen or heard of a suggestion of such horrible merit.

As has already been stated and diagrammed, even in only the first two pages of comments, many thrilling sacrifices forcing mate would no longer be feasible as a result of such a poorly-thought-out, hackneyed, pointless rule.

@OP: Sorry! Try again.

after page two, people realized that he refused to acknowledge their refutations and it was a better use of their time to post pictures... so here we are with lots of pictures filling the pages

Oh, so I missed pictures. Well now I am almost tempted to read the missing pages.

And don't even bother with the queen sac refutation, you are not dealing with someone serious in case you havent clued in yet. You are dealing with trollus maximus.

fine by me, this is actually one of the more interesting forums. Also, I want someone to pitch this to FIDE just to see what happens.

Hardly that. A really skillful troll tricks other posters into fighting with each other, then he sits back and laughs as they get banned and he doesn't.

@OP: You call this "opportunist"?

This is not an opportunistic victory. It is genius.

Why is anybody taking the OP seriously? This is one of the most obvious troll threads I've seen in a while. Are we chess players really that autistic?

Its bad news, because I have been thinking how stupid of a thread I could start and have people take me seriously, and this thread just upped the ante.

for more wonderful examples, see the entire game collection of Tal

Maybe I could start a thread that you have to say "check" in an online game or you forfeit. No button, you just sort of mumble it to yourself.

Ubik42

Is that dumber than the OP?

I do that. Of course, I mumble to myself constantly.

I don't think losing your queen and rook is genius at all. In fact, I think that whole diagram was a little bit ridiculous, and I'm sure most would agree.

Perhaps if something changes. I'm not currently interested in investing time on such a fundamentally flawed game where handing pieces to your opponent is an acceptable "winning" strategy. That kind of garbage would never stand up in the real world.

Real world alert on sacrifices: Tell that to the troops that invaded Normandy - most of them were fodder and they knew it.

wait, let me respond for Peter... "The Axis should have been declared victors because long-term stuff doesn't matter, and they had a temporary material advantage."

I'm a bit bewildered.  I thought I was slow to catch sarcasm... it's almost inconceivable others are worse.  Maybe I'm not a lost cause!

coalescenet

Is it not amazing that waitzkin found and broke through with these sacrifices to checkmate black?

News flash - king worth more than everything else.

whirlwind2011

@OP: The object of chess is to win. White forced that in the diagram.

Your proposal has been defeated. If you will not recognize that, then the diagram will perhaps be educational to others more humble and willing to learn.

no

We all know OP is sarcastic (I hope) we just don't care...

Ubik42

I demand feedback on my saying check idea from everyone discussing diagrams and kings and queens.

waffllemaster

Well, you don't care, but it seems like some do.  Maybe I'm just being slow again lol.
