A Chatty Conundrum

How do I know if my opponent has diabled chat? Do I? Or must I assume that they are being rude?

kohai
you'll know if they have disabled the chatbox, as it won't be there on your game page. ... If someone disables chat, its not them being rude, some people don't like to chat during their chess game

I almost always say "Hi, from Lisbon" at the start of each of my games. From that point I may or may not chat during the game, it depends entirely on my opponent. If they like to chat then we chat if they don't we don't. I especially like to chat with the gals which often gets me into hot water with my jealous latin wife! Sealed

LOL Reb, i chat sometimes during a game.. If i'm not sure whether my opponent can speak or understand english, i use a translator, and wish them a good game in their own language.

hey Reb,  tell her:

remind her that you are with her from choice, not from force, and you CHOOSE HER for your favorite because of her unselfish attitude.......

I already "explained" to her that just cause you are on a diet doesn't mean you can't read the menu!  That didnt go over real well though.

She is the one that plays and chats and translates. Who is a man married and doesn't know the wife is in charge? Poor Reb a Southern Man beaten by the Yankees and Spain, :( His last bastion of masculintiy is to say he is a NM while we know who is pulling the strings Pinnochio :))-

No, I speak English and only English. I am an American living in Portugal. My wife is not a translator by profession but she acts as my personal translator when we travel. However, when we go to German speaking countries we are both at a loss.  Smile

kohai
I'm lucky on that score Reb, i do speak German, but still rely on babel translator for most other languages
