abandonment should have a higher cost in points

Somebody just last week was arguing that ratings should not be affected by games won by abandonment and that the policy distorts ratings.

It's frustrating when you are winning and someone can just abandon the game and leave you waiting for the clock to run out. It's poor sportsmanship and a waste of time. 

I know it's tricky because I play almost exclusively on my phone and sometimes my games get interrupted because of bad cell service. 

I'm just tired of sore losers rage quitting rather than just resigning.

I don't want points for playing 1.d4 and waiting 5 minutes. the abandoner should be kicked off tournaments for 24 hours, then 72, then....well, you get it.

That would be an abort. Too frequent aborts are punished.

To O.P., no, because it may be due to computer problems and someone shouldn't be penalised twice for this.

No it wouldn't. In tournaments aborts don't happen you have too wait until they run out of time and if they do than they lose and lose rating points.

Unfortunately for the S.S., some people don't always have good connections.

Ya too frequent aborts should be punished.
