About TT rating calculation algorithm?

Hi forum...

I am enjoying my Tactics Trainer on chess.com, and I am very interested in how TT calculates results. I have surfed hours on the site and read through:

https://support.chess.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1444811-how-does-the-time-and-ratings-work-

It says that user is playing a short game against a problem with Glicko rating. But, cannot find answers about:

- Is "average time" baked in the algorithm?

- How? is "average time" part of the algorithm

- How is "solving problem late gives you 1 rating point" part of the algorithm

- How is "percentage of success calculated"

Now, I have read similar questions to this all over the forum, but I cannot find the answers.

Thanks!!

The average time is just what it says. Everyone that attempts a tactic in rated mode takes a certain amount of time to complete it. Then those times are averaged. It probably uses full completed tactics and not partial completions, but I don't know that for sure.

The image on the first link gives a general idea how time taken impacts the rating change. So, if you succeed, at least partially, it will take the max change the rating formula gives and decrease it based on the time.

The minimum of 1 point is a newer addition. It used to be that you could successfully solve the problem but take too long resulting in 0 points. Now, if the formula would give you 0, it gives 1 instead.

On percentage, I'm not sure. The easiest of the tactics will be a simple number of moves divided by total correct. Some won't give any points if you don't get a certain key move so I imagine the calculation is different there.

Hey, thanks for answering.

I arrived to those same conclusions myself. It seems natural that "average time" is part of the algorithm, but I would like to know how. Not pure mathematics, but explained to some degree. Do I play "timed game" where time of the game is 2 times "everage time"? .

I am very facinated by TT calculator you see. I think its supercool. And I am surprised that, nowhere on this huge site is this closer explained.

What further fascinates me is when I read below TT problems, and some people comment that "rating is too high", "rating is too low", "this is stupid problem".. which I find to be totaly absurd things to say, I would exspect "chess people" to be smarter. I would like to give those people a link on how TT works.. but I cannot find that link, those above are not good enough.

Also, some people comment that "the problem has wrong solution". Now.. This bothers me. Is it even possible that a TT problem has wrong solution?

I think that info should be placed very central, right together with TT itself, and not deep burried in forums..

Sometime tactics get placed that may have multiple good solutions. In some cases they get modified to try and get a clear winning line. That will often leave comments that have little to do with the original line.

And sometimes a problem just needs to be reported and removed.
