Android App Not Showing Move even though it can be seen on Chess.com

Hi,

So I move in a Daily game using latest droid app on Nexus 10 tablet.

The move will be sent to the server and can be seen on the
server via chess.com but it does not show in the app unless you use android task
manager to kill the app and then rerun the app.

The board on the summary screen is still bright with the move not shown. Killing the app and reloading and the move is now shown on the dull boards below (in my case) the daily puzzle etc.
It's intermittent, say 1 move in 3 to 5. Cant see any other pattern to it.

Diving me mad.

Is it just me or is anyone else seeing this? If others may help chess.com to look at the problem in a bit more depth and or provide more clues as to what is going on. I've already uninstalled and deleted cache but made no odds.

I do occasionally  also move on the PC (V3)... but that is normally used for work....

I see that problem (daily games not updating and showing day-old or even two-day-old status) on my 8" Asus tablet running Marshmallow. However, I have never seen it on either of the two phones on which I've used Chess.com.

It's definitely a real issue. Maybe a problem with the app on an older version of Android? If it's not that, then I have no idea. But it's there.

Thanks for confirming I'm not going mad (I knew I was not, the evidence is clear, but it could still have been only me seeing it). I'm on Android 5.1.1 which is not the most recent. Putting aside this chess bug the tablet is otherwise still really good. You would imagine that once reproducible it should not be so hard to fix. But maybe I'll have to get a new tablet. Or line with the bug a bit longer.

Have you filed a bug report? If not, let me know the make, model, and any other relevant information on your tablet and I'll file it with both your data and mine. Be sure you're using the latest version of the Chess.com app as well, of course.

Yes I've been talking to Brenda who talks to the development team. So yes definitely got latest app and I've done all of the delete data and cache, uninstall, reinstall, power on of stuff. To no avail. 

So it would be good if you could also do a report. Your platinum membership  may trigger a higher level of supporthappy.png But I suspect these things are also driven by how many people report the bug and its seriousness.

@deanforster Could you please try turning your device on and off again and see if that helps? (I've had that happen on one of my 5.1 devices as well, and I'd like to see if it might be related to a problem with 5.1 specifically — since it also happens for @rodolfopaiz on Marshmallow, it might be something specific to tablets.)

So powered on and off.

Still same problem.

Another way it manifests is the game sits in pending. You then quit and reload and you see not just your move but the opponents move, if they made one.

Not that I play on phone very often but seen it on that as well. Remember one game made a very bad move and thought, great I've note made it after all. But had.

I've been having the same problems for about a month running Android 5.1. I've tried reinstalling the app, but the bug remains. Contacted support weeks ago. Hoped I might find an answer here. Shutting down the app between moves is becoming tiresome!

@chrka is from chess.com so I think they will sort it. It is annoying but the app is so much nicer than trying to play in a browser on a tablet. IMHO. But wish they would add conditional moves to daily play. But first this bug!

Thanks @chrka and @deanforster.  Let me know if there's anything I can do to aid in diagnosis or testing. I agree with you on adding conditional moves.  That would be a nice enhancement.

I've seen this problem only on tablets. My phones (Nexus 5X, now Pixel) are always perfect. But on tablets running Android 5.x and 6.x, it happens all the bloody time.

My current tablet is an Asus running Android 6.0.1. Chess.com app is unusable for games since it does not update current status, though it does not crash and will serve tactics reliably all day long.

At the moment I'm limiting myself to 6 games. At one point I'd moved in 3 of them but all showed as not moved. Just saying in case it provides any insite.

I do notice that in the droid pull down status I nearly always have the message, "Live chess connection will terminate after 30s idle" or something like that. Not correlated it with anything, just saying.
