This is still an issue. Any word on if this will be implemented or fixed for web?

Best move will only show after a review has been completed, the setting is toggled on, and the best move arrow shows after the played move is on the board.

I got it to work on desktop / PC!!!

[Update :] Maybe I'm mistaken, now I can also make it work without using the Developer tools ... It's toggling off "Comments" that causes the green moves on the right panel to suddenly turn white, and the green arrows to vanish at the same time ...

Tell me what you experience!

[Original post :]

On Firefox or Chrome, you have to:

  • press F12 to open the "Developer tools" panel
  • click the "Adaptative view" button (the icon with the phone and tablet) or press Ctrl+Shift+M
  • make sure you have for example an Android device selected, on top of the screen
  • then refresh the page (to load the mobile version of the website) and adjust the size of the preview so that it's more or less full screen on your monitor.
On my 1920x1080 monitor, I created a custom 1901x858 device, it matches perfectly the size of the page.
  • Run the Game Review (sometimes it gets stuck, I just refresh the page)
  • Once all the colors appear for each move, you can switch to the Self Analysis and voila!

Broken functionality! While on Android i can see Best Move without any issue in Game Review, on Windows it is simply not shown. I made sure to select "Show best move" in the settings menu.

Same problem, best move doesn't shown but calculated in the right analysis table.

All arrows are enabled in analysis and review settings,

game review was done, different browsers are tested (Edge, Opera, Firefox on Windows10 OS)

Was the review completed immediately before? The review data is not saved so if you run a review and look a day later at the analysis, you won't have any move classifications and the best move will not show.

Based on your move list, there don't appear to be any classifications so it would appear a review hadn't been run recently

Martin_Stahl, this problem is several years old, and I see your answers in several threads here.

You show a very low level of understanding and I can't believe that you are so incompetent. I guess you "play stupid" because chess_com said you so, because this is how they artificially understate the interface of the board to make people buy Platinum membership plans to be able to see the result of an engine analysis. It's quite funny that they still did not cut this from mobile app, as I assume the teams are a little different and mobile team is not so greedy.

Feedback feature shows the calculation result of the LAST MOVE, it also marks your move as best, good, inaccuracy and so on. This is chess_com "killer feature" and of course they will make everything to protect it from simple and free analysis tool as local analysis.

What ALL people are complaining about is LOCAL ENGINE LINES arrows on NEXT MOVE, this is result of our own computer calculation, and chess_com blocking the result from showing on board is most low thing for chess community.

Here are examples if you really don't understand the problem:

Browser self analysis no review, no arrows, although the local engine calculated whole 3 lines and ability to draw them on board is a BASIC one, but not for chess_com browser client, lichess easily draws ALL three of them with bold and thin arrows, mobile app draws the top line, I will show the screenshot:

And here is WITH review, we have an arrow, but it is about LAST MOVE, our inaccuracy. This only works on premium plans, because it uses cloud calculations, that's FAIR. We don't need that.

What we need is ability to see LOCALLY CALCULATED lines, like this:

Or at least like this:

I think making such "good business management" decisions is so low from chess_com, I can't believe that drawing already calculated arrows from the engine is a technically difficult task for programmers, it been cut on purpose to rake it in from sells of membership plans.

GIVE PEOPLE THE ABILITY TO SEE THE RESULT OF THEIR LOCAL ENGINE ANALYSIS!!!

Sorry for my anger, but I just can't stand such low attitude to players from chess_com and I believe almost every player, who loves chess_com will support me, we as community should and must push common sense to the heads of top management of this platform.

@scatchman I'm answering questions on how it works here. I don't know for sure why specific product decisions are ultimately made, especially in this particular feature.

I also don't have any influence on what features are included, other than making suggestions like other members.

website project management doesn't want to have that kind of configuration

as far as I'm aware, there are no plans to make the website analysis show best move without a review first being ran

Martin_Stahl As a moderator, please bring attention of the members of the website project management team to this problem/request and tell them how many people suffer from anxiety that such simple and handy analysis tool is missing, if they are so concerned about our "ideal experience" then let it be toggled off by default, but don't just cut off the interface with this simple feature, that as far as I remember was working fine before the "Game review" feature was introduced.

And if people show you the exact thing with screenshots like Tappac did, please answer them that this feature is not implemented and not supported, and don't say that they must make a review first, because review does not show you the locally calculated engine moves anyway, don't act like you don't understand what they are asking for. Lets make the project better for players, not for managers.

Staff get suggestion tickets on feature requests so they have seen them. It's possible that it's not something that will be added or if it's planned it could be very low priority.

Also, as far as I'm aware, the website has never included a best move option on the web analysis at all, unless a review happened. Though, if it did it was well before the first version of Game Report.

Android does have something similar but it appears to be based on a quick review analysis and just shows the best move suggested from that.

This idea that you have to complete a review first doesn't make any sense for two reasons:
First, I've completed game reviews and I'm still not able to view best moves on desktop, even after switching the toggles mentioned above.

Second, why wouldn't the mobile app follow the same logic? The "view" might be different but the programming logic between the two is the same.
This is clearly a bug on the desktop front-end that the dev team needs to fix, but if there aren't enough complaints, then it won't get their attention.....

It doesn't work even with Premium.
It works fine on mobile.
As @scatchman mentioned, this are the lines calculated locally.
Its basically draw the line for this calculated moves.

It is a very frustrating missing feature for desktop.

So, why do they have the option to show the Best Move and Threats in the Analysis setting in the web version?

Avatar of lordmcfork

I spoke to customer support. They said that the mobile and website functionality is different. The website version can show the best move only AFTER a move is made and, according to customer support representative:

- the website functionality (ie best move shown AFTER a move) is based on the customer feedback (?!)

- the mobile version is going to be updated to align with the website functionality

I passed my feedback that functionality to immediately show the best move in Analysis view should be an option.

if you think that is important, suggest you provide feedback to chess.com , otherwise looks there is no hope.

Because it will show the best move if a review has been completed and threats if that feature has been enabled.

That said, this feature is now in Beta and should be released site wide soon if there are no major bug reports. Though it's going to be premium only
