fhwee, how old is your computer?

is it a standalone pc or laptop?

What type of internet connection do you have?

I'm curious why it took your computer 45 minutes to download chrome.

Yesterday  you said it worked if you typed in www.chess.com/echess/myhome.html

has that stopped working again now?

Can you click on this link and tell me what you see please?

To:- Ms.Kohai,

My standalone pc is about 7 years old.It  is on wireless broadband. I downloaded Chrome about 6 times by mistake.I was  very releived when I was able to access chess .com., by logging in at www.chess.com./echess./myhome/html. I do not know the reason, but today it has suddenly stopped working. When it worked, I was on Mozilla Firefox. Now both Firefox and Chrome do not seem to work at all. Not only do  I have to endure blank chess board, I also cannot scroll down on the right hand column to read and reply to your queries.

After so many hours of trying, I am able to reply to you, is because I have installed Apple's Safari. The installation was only about 90% as an  unwanted hardware device blocked the total installation of Safari. The device is called "Add HardDrive Wizard -ST 3808110AS and 41N3267 LEN-drive C". It is an unidentified hardware which is not compatible with my computer. I do not know how it got into the pc, in the first place. My wife and I are using this pc. She is slightly better than me, as I am very, very green. And also by accident or what else I could not define, a component called Babylon went into my system, but I managed to uninstall it. But somehow the Babylon's icon kept appearing on the extreme right corner of any website (Firefox or Chrome) when I log in.

PLease advise  me what steps to take to rectify the situation. I have about 30 to 40 hours to put it in order, or else I will lose my remaining 20 games at Online chess.

To:-Ms Kohai,

Sorry that I forgot to answer your last question. I could only see a black Bishop's head on the top left corner and the word and digits ;-bb.png (53X53)-Go.at the top handle. The rest of the screen was blank.

But you did try playing chess here after disabling the anti-virus and firewall, right?

fhwee

Yes, but it did not work at all.

To:-Ms. Kohai,

My wife confirmed that we had the computer sometime mid 1997. So, its 5 years old now

RichColorado

You got some kind of virus.

Why do you have to focus on Chrome. Get rid of it.

Recover you computer to a date that it was working.

Then leave it alone.

To:- Ms. Kohai,

Rest assured that it is not a Singapore network issue. I have checked  with SINGNET. Please do not abandon me. I need your help. I have 20 Online games pending.

RichColorado

Go to a friend and use their computer for those games.

Hmm, this sounds very like a general graphics problem I had on my PC a few years ago, and not specifically this chess site. You could try turning off graphics acceleration and see if that makes it any better. With differnt versions of Windows there are different ways to do this, but given the age of your PC it is probably... right click with your mouse over the background display, and then select properties. You ought to see a 'tab' page labelled 'settings', click on this. Now it gets tricky, there may be a tick box labelled hardware acceleration, or a slide bar with minimum and maximum settings on it. Select 'No acceleration' or minimum, and try that. If it now works, I would suggest that you find the correct graphics card driver for your PC.
