why cant i edit my status?

May I ask what it is that you wanted to edit?

Since I've been a member here for over 6 years, I've edited my profile many times, but not on this page that you posted here.

What I would do is: from the page that you have posted here, I would click on the little word 'Edit' (with a pen or pencil in a tiny square box that's next to the word 'Edit') located at the top of the page. And from there, a page would come up with a list of 'Settings'. When I click on a setting on that list, a screen for that setting would come up giving me a choice to change whatever they have made available to change.

But I don't think one can make changes anywhere else on one's profile.

What I would do, if I were you, is send an email to:
support@chess.com. This is the email address I have always sent my questions or inquiries to. And they have always responded to my emails -- no matter how silly, stupid or trivial some of the questions have been. And this is the email address that Chess.com will always respond to. If you go through another route, and there are other routes, they may not (and a lot of times they won't) get back to you.

Please ask them -- it won't hurt to ask them. They will give you an answer.

This was quickly fixed yesterday.
