I think you right-click somewhere on the board (or perhaps even just off the board) to cancel a pre-move.

In live chess, is there a way to cancel an auto-move. When I make an auto-move, I've tried clicking on the piece, or clicking on another piece, but it doesn't appear to cancel the auto-move. In fact, it looks like it adds an additional auto-move on top of the first one.
