Chess.com encourages stalling

By relying on players to report stalling instead of having a strict mechanism to prevent it, Chess.com actually encourages stalling since players feel there's a small chance of any repercussion. And like a virus, I'm pretty sure that some if not many stallers start out by being a victim of stalling themselves. It would never occur to some people to do this until they've been a victim of it themselves. Then it spreads and tarnishes the platform. In my 800 games experience on this site, I would guess that I've been stalled at least 10 times. And every time it happens I block the player. Getting tired of Chess.com inaction.

I'm fairly new but I don't know what stalling even means. Can you explain it, please?

It's when a player, who is usually losing, draws out their turn by refusing to act. They do this in hope that you'll resign or abandon the game, giving them the win.

Hope this helps!

Oh. I just read another post about stalling; never had it happen to me when playing Rapid (which is all I play). How would chess com know the difference between someone really considering their response versus stalling?

I also don't understand WHY anyone would stall? Anyway, blocking seems the best answer - you have a right to play or not play anyone you wish. I'm sorry it is frustrating for you. This website is for fun and not frustration!

We were posting at same time! Thank you for explaining it. Yep, stalling isn't nice at all!
