Daily chess false aborts

I played against two people in daily chess, with both of us having 7 days to play. Now, on the last day, I realise that these two players haven't done any moves and so naturally, I decide to abort both matches so as not to waste my time with it. I clicked on the option Abort for both of them, but it then says that the player won because I RESIGNED. How does this make any sense??? Can someone explain this to me please???

Both games were part of a tournament. You can't abort those, only resign or play.
