His answer still applies. How you get around the auto-renewal is by cancelling it. You still keep your account for the full time you paid for, and all you do is just re-up when you want to. Your account merely converts to a free account status if you let it run out without renewing.
Note that the bold part is incorrect - if you cancel your membership, you get this message:
"Your Premium Membership at Chess.com has been cancelled effective immediately".
Also, I'm very disappointed to see that chess.com makes it damn near impossible to figure out how to disable auto-renew, or otherwise cancel your account. Borderline unethical in my book.
Missed this post, but I would need to see some confirmation of this claim that it removes your premium membership instantly rather than giving you the month you paid for.
When my old computer broke on me, I cancelled my membership for a few months until I got a new one. I still had my premium membership for the month I payed for when I did.

I too am disappointed in the automatic renewal process. The email notification indicates if you don't act now they will automatically renew your membership. I too wanted control of my billing, and decided to renew on my own because the email gave the impression they would renew your membership NOW on their own! When I renewed on my own to prevent them from using my credit card, I LOST 2 months of membership! I have emailed them twice and have yet to receive a response! If I don't get a response, or some sort of explanation I think I'll just play with the non-chess.com membership when it expires. I also requested my credit card removed from their credit card bank! I feel this is an unethical practice on the the part of Chess.com., and this will reduce their membership as opposed to increasing it!

Come on Zackford, emails don't do squat. If you want an official response you have to file a support ticket; that's the only way you can be sure someone will respond. Click "help & support", then click the little box in the lower left that says "contact support". Takes you to the "file a ticket" page where you can contact billing.

Hi,
I would like to disable automatic renewal, and I know I saw it in my settings here once before. However, I can't find the option anywhere in account or profile settings. I searched this forum, and one response indicated it doesn't exist anymore? Can someone confirm this?
For the record, I'm not trying to cancel my subscription just yet; I would just prefer to have control over the renewal & billing process.
Thanks, gmkevin2009

Thank you very much. This is exactly what I was looking for.

You'd need to contact staff in Billing (Matt) and ask him to remove it from your account.

I think it's just a scam that is used by chess.com to steal money. That the same thing that hackers do - get your credit card number and than take your money hoping that you won't notice it. I was going to buy premium membership again but that people are getting billed without consent means that chess.com does not respect us. I don't want to beg them to disable automatic renewal or remove my credit card info. They must ask you if you want automatic renewal not you beg them to remove it. I started seriously think about finding more decent web site for online chess.

Dzmitry, as discussed in http://www.chess.com/forum/view/help-support/extension-account-without-giving-permission2, automatic renewal is not unusual nor is it unethical, and it has been clearly flagged in both the Terms of Service when you join and is fully documented in the FAQ at https://support.chess.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1444919-how-does-membership-renewal-work
If you have forgotten to cancel the automatic renewal, you can ask for it to be manually cancelled and we will refund the balance - you just need to contact the Support team through the normal channels (documented in that FAQ article, but here's the link again: https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new). No "begging" is required, but communication is.
1) Disable automatic renewal.
2) Have not received answer to question sent yesterday concerning a charge to my credit card for 107.17 I only wanted the basic plan to occasionally play a game with my 12 year old grandson who is a member and learning the game.
3) I would like a credit for the difference in cost of the basic and upgraded.
