Draw Questions

I need help.  First can I claim a draw when it is me that has repeated the same move three times and if so how?  Next, the 50 move rule...is that 50 moves for each (a total of 100 moves for both oponents)  and then if so, how do I claim a draw for that?  Thanks.

There is all draw rules well explained.

Thanks for your help, but I'm still having problems.  If the three repeated move applies to both players, here in my case, I did repeat the same move three times but had no opportuinty to "claim the draw" as this "button" failed to appear on the screen below the chat box and as described by the chess.com site.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks again.

Ok, first of all, it must be the position that is repeated 3 times, not individual moves.  Basically, if you take a snapshot of the board at three different times and it looks exactly the same each time (and castling/en passant is allowed/disallowed the same each time), that's when a draw can be claimed.  If your opponent is making different moves, then clearly the board will look different each time, and so there isn't any repetition of the position.

Secondly, the 50-move draw can only be claimed after 50 full moves (50 from each player) have been made without a capture or pawn moved.  For example, if the last capture or pawn move was on White's 42nd move, then no 50-move draw can be claimed until Black's 92nd move (technically in OTB chess, White could claim it just before making their 92nd move by calling over the arbiter, but in online chess, they have to actually make the move first).  However, if someone moves a pawn or makes a capture before this 92nd move, then the count starts all over again.

If one of the two conditions above have been met (and you may have to look at the game when it isn't your turn to see it), then the "Offer Draw" button should change into a "Claim Draw" button.

Thanks Omnipaul for the "complete" explanation.  I now get it.

Thank you as well, Omnipaul, not because I needed the clarification, but I was indeed wondering what did chess.com do when the requirements for a draw were fully met.  You have now answered that question by stating the "Offer draw" button changes into a "Claim draw" button Smile
